Dear Parent,
Once again this spring, we are planning to hold a full set of tryouts for all players in current Grades 4-7 (fall Grades 5-8) to determine the players on the Division 1 and Division 2 teams for the next fall season. These tryouts are part of the tryout policy for Wellesley United Soccer Club (WUSC) that you can view on the club website. The goal of this policy is to give every child the opportunity to tryout for the stratified teams (Division 1 and 2).
Since the tryouts are for the Division 1 and Division 2 stratified teams, the club would like to stress that they are strictly voluntary and only for those children interested in playing on these teams. Anyone wanting to play on a less competitive team does not have to tryout in order to play. On the other hand, we would also like to stress that the stratified teams will be selected from these tryouts, so that anyone wanting to play for these teams must tryout, including current stratified team players.
****Note that ALL PL
We recognize that the tryouts can be very stressful on your kids, so we would like to make a few suggestions and comments to you to minimize their anxiety:
1. No parents of players that are part of the tryout will be evaluators. Evaluators are made up of independent, soccer-knowledgeable people.
Note that current D-1 and D-2 coaches may attend the tryouts as observers (not as evaluators).
2. During the tryouts, parents are encouraged to stay a reasonable distance away from the action so that kids can relax.
3. Tryouts are only one part of the process. The club recognizes that players occasionally have a bad day and do not perform well at a tryout. Coach evaluations are also an important part of the team selection process. Tryout results will be combined with these evaluations to determine team selection.
4. After the tryout, it is best not to ask your child "How did it go?" on the way home. They have no way of knowing, and it will only make them more nervous. Better to ask, "Was it fun?", and move on to a different topic.
5. The goal is to place players on teams where they can succeed and have fun. You are trying to match appropriate skill level with anticipated level of competition. It is no fun for a player and does not help their development to be on a team where they are at a significant competitive disadvantage.
6. You will find out about the results of the tryouts and your fall team placement after all spring season activities for your team are concluded (probably 6/23-6/30 time frame). Notification will be by email to your family email account on your registration.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your coach or age group coordinator.
