History of Wellesley United Soccer Club

Since the 1970’s the Wellesley United Soccer Club (WUSC) has provided programs that get kids excited about participating in athletics while promoting teamwork and good sportsmanship.

The WUSC is a non-profit organization that consists of 24 board members from the community who volunteer their time and energy to promote the great game of soccer by organizing teams for in-town and travel league participation, as well as offering numerous academy sessions focused on player development.  There are also hundreds of town residents that volunteer each year to coach, raise funds and pitch in where needed.

During any given season there are over 1,800 Wellesley children participating in our programs.  In 2011 the WUSC recognized that we needed to hire a director of coaching to help us resource and organize player, coach and referee development.  Currently, Chris Howard is the WUSC director of coaching.  He has extensive professional coaching experience and has had a history of creating very successful town and regional programs.  Learn more about Coach Howard here.

As a charitable organization, the WUSC understands the importance of giving back to the community and has participated in providing resources for several charitable initiatives such as supporting the development of the Sprague Field’s complex, coordinating and resourcing the TOPS soccer outreach program for kids with special needs, hosting the annual “Barefoot Soccer” fundraising event to benefit underprivileged children in Africa, and by providing annual scholarship opportunities for the kids that participate in both WUSC and Wellesley High School soccer programs.  The WUSC also sponsors educational sessions for town residents such as concussion training and coach development opportunities.
