SCHEDULES

COACH INFORMATION
Format:  Season runs for 7 weeks, April 25 - June 13th with no soccer on the weekend of Memorial Day.  Each weekly session is 45 minutes of practice to reinforce skill development followed by a 45 minute game.  There should be no additional practices during the week.  A coaching clinic will be held during the 1/2 hour before your weekly session at the field.  Curriculum will be available.  Please plan to arrive 1/2 hour ahead to go over the plan for the week.  We will be using trainers.

Sessions are held 2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. each Sunday for the girls

Sessions are held 4:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. each Sunday for the boys.

First graders play at Hardy and Fiske fields.  You are assigned to the same field for the entire season. Second graders play at Sprague field.

For the week of the Wellesley Parade (mid MAY) the times have been changed and shortened to:  3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. for girls, 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. for boys

Rosters: You will receive a team list by email.  If anyone drops off your team please notify the coordinator.  Under no conditions are players to be traded or added to teams by the coaches.  Roster changes can only be made by the coordinator and will only be made in the case of filling roster slots.

What to tell parents:  If you haven’t already done so, it is recommended that you let the parents know:  Game schedule - include time and field location, team color, list of players on team, phone, parents names etc. and a water and orange schedule.

Rain Cancellation:  Games will be canceled only if it is raining hard.  Cancellations will be posted on the website and coaches will be emailed.

Safety:  is of paramount importance.  Please let coordinators know immediately of any serious injury.   Emergency medical information will be emailed to you this week.  Please print out a copy and bring it to each game.  You have received 1 ice pack.  If you need more during the season, call Sue DeNatale.  Cleats are optional, but shin pads are required.

Skill Objective:  Soccer is a game of control.  At this age we want to emphasize ball control in trapping, dribbling, passing and shooting and discourage booting the ball.

Rules:  Referees - Coaches should take turns as the ref.  When you are being the referee, you are not to coach in any way on the field.

Coaches - Play skill-enhancing games during practice.  Offer encouragement in support of skill goals during the game. Minimize instruction and direction such as “go there” or “pass it here”.  Do not encourage booting the ball.  Coaches are responsible for the behavior of the parents.

Parents - Parents should offer encouragement only, not instruction.  For example, “pass it” is an instruction, “nice pass” is encouragement.  Parents should stand on the opposite side of the field from players.

End of Season: In an effort to be consistent for all K - 2 grade teams, the WUSC will provide each team with certificates to be presented at the end of the season.  The certificates are designed with a space for a team picture that we suggest be taken at the beginning of the season.  We also encourage, if you desire, ice cream parties, pizza parties or a special treat at the field, restaurant or home.  DO NOT present trophies, medals or plaques.
