Memorial Day Tournament Team Invitation
The Wellesley United Soccer Club is pleased to announce its 27th Annual Memorial Day Weekend Tournament to be held on May 24 & 25, 2008. This is a sanctioned 6v6 tournament, held under the auspices of the Massachusetts Youth Soccer Association. The tournament is limited to teams comprised of girls and boys under 10 years of age (born after 7/31/97) who are playing in Division 1 or 2. In addition, stronger division 3 teams will also be considered. In recent years, Division 1 and 2 and strong Division 3 U-10 teams (48 teams) from communities throughout and beyond New England have participated, and we anticipate a diverse group of teams again this year. Wellesley is located 30 minutes west of Boston, and all games will be played at the Sprague Field Complex.
Rosters will be limited to twelve (12) players (exceptions allowed upon tournament director approval). All teams must consist solely of players registered with that town for league play. For the purpose of promoting fair competition, applications from all-star and district (e.g. MAPLE) teams will not be considered. FIFA rules will apply. All teams will play six 40-minute games (20 minutes per half with 5 minutes at halftime). In keeping with the non-results-oriented philosophy that MYSA has adopted for all U-10 play, all teams will play six games structured as follows: on the first day of the tournament, teams will be separated into pools of equal competitiveness. The teams will be re-distributed for the second day of play to facilitate more equitable and competitive play. This will provide the greatest opportunity for all teams to enjoy a positive competitive experience. Trophies will be awarded to all participants. Patches will be exchanged by all teams after every game. Each team will be required to have at least two (2) responsible adults in charge at every game.
To enter your team, please complete the application and roster form and return it with a registration fee of $375. Checks should be made payable to "Wellesley United Soccer Club, Inc." We urge you to apply as early as possible. The due date for applications is April 18, 2008. Application does not guarantee acceptance. Acceptance notices will be emailed in mid April. Registration fees will be returned promptly to those teams in which are not accepted. Once acceptance is emailed, the registration fee becomes non-refundable.
